WELCOME
We want you to know how welcome you are at Calvary Lutheran Church. We welcome you to worship with us at any time. If you have no church home in the area and would like to have one, we welcome you from whatever tradition you may have come. We invite you to explore our worship, our classes and whatever captures your imagination and need. Our mission as a congregation is to seek out, in order to share the good news of God with people, to nurture and equip our members for ministry and to serve the community, and one another in Christ=s Name
Calvary Lutheran is a safe place to ask questions and to live the questions of life that have no easy or pat answers. We understand the life of faith to be a journey, and we walk that journey with one another. You are welcome among us.
If you have questions about our congregation, call Pastor Williams or the secretary any weekday morning at 944-1116. God bless you in Christ Jesus through His Holy Spirit
CALVARY'S STAFF
Dr. Alan Williams is our pastor, installed November 5, 2000, to serve as our shepherd. His task is to help fellow believers glorify God and edify others. This means leading worship, teaching classes, and reaching out to others in our community. Any pastor=s goal is to nurture the whole person in their walk with God, to provide guidance and oversight of the people of God at Calvary Lutheran Church, to lead and protect, and to establish trust and confidence as a fully developed follower of Jesus Christ.
Diane Terrazas serves as our pastoral associate with her main focus on youth, from elementary to college. She is part time with Calvary and part time with Trinity Lutheran Church, Miles, TX, as their synodically appointed lay minister. Diane is trained as a parish lay minister and is an AIM.

WHAT WE DO AT CALVARY
Our ministry at Calvary is best summed up in the words of our Mission Statement which says: Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the congregation of Calvary Lutheran Church is passionately committed to:
KNOW GOD AND TO PROCLAIM HIS WORD.
ACT AS LIVING WITNESSES IN OUR COMMUNITY .
PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHRISTIAN GROWTH THROUGH THE STUDY OF GOD=S WORD AND PRAYER LIFE.
BE VISIBLE THROUGH CARING, FORGIVENESS AND SERVICE TO ALL
One of the most important aspects of our life together is regularly gathering around Word and Sacrament for Worship. Our Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m.. In addition to professional staff, our members are encouraged to be directly involved in worship leadership as assisting ministers, lectors, cantors, acolytes, ushers and greeters. Periodic training sessions are held to prepare members for these service opportunities . The Altar Guild also provides support for all our worship services.
The Sunday Christian Education Program at 9:15 a.m. provides classes for all ages from three to 103+. Vacation Bible School is held annually each Summer. Dedicated teachers use curriculum which is Biblically and educationally sound. There is a class for everyone at Calvary.
We are blessed by providing a church home for the many Goodfellow AFB personnel who are in San Angelo for a brief tour of duty, and also for the ASU and Howard College students while they attend college.
Calvary supports several area ecumenical ministries including United Campus Ministry, an on campus house at ASU; Bethphage Mission South group homes for persons with developmental disabilities, Christmas in April, March of Dimes, Crop Walk, the CPS Rainbow Room and Project DIGNIDAD, a food pantry for San Angelo=s hungry.
Opportunities and activities are planned throughout the year to provide times to share fellowship and service among the members of Calvary. Women of the ELCA sponsors two monthly Bible studies,"secret sisters@ program, and participate in conference and synod functions. Our church calendar can be found on the church web page at www.calvarysa.org.
A Prayer Chain is maintained by women of the congregation in which special needs of members and friends are taken to God in prayer. A prayer group meets each Wednesday at 6:30p.m. at the church.
Fellowship over refreshments follow each service. On months with 5th Sundays we have a potluck after the service. Visitors are welcome.
Three active youth groups: 4th-6th grade, Jr High Youth, Sr. High Youth, meet regularly several times each month.
Various adult groups meet for different activities throughout the year, including Women of the ELCA on the second Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. for Bible study. A Mens Fellowship Breakfast meets on the third Saturday at 7:30 a.m.. WE are in process of beginning Christ Care home Bible study-prayer groups.
Confirmation instruction is available for people of all ages. The jr. High Faith Incubators meets Wednesday evenings at the church.
God has gifted you through the Holy Spirit to be a faithful member of His body, the Church. We want to support that gift as we are able.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Calvary Lutheran Church was organized March 9, 1947 by 18 Charter members. The Rev. A. C. Schiff was the first Pastor. Presently, the only remaining Charter member is Elton Kiesling . The first church building was on Paint Rock Road near the Bell Street intersection and was dedicated on the congregation=s first anniversary
In January 1966 the congregation purchased the land for the present location on College Hills Blvd. The present church building was constructed by the Pfluger Construction Co. and completed in December, 1974 and dedicated to the Glory of God on April 20, 1975
Calvary started as a mission congregation of the American Lutheran Church. In 1988 the ALC, through merger, became a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America [ ELCA]. The ELCA is comprised of over 11,000 congregations throughout the U.S.A.. We are a part of the North Texas - North Louisiana Synod.
As a part of that national church body, Calvary joins with congregations across America in spreading the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our community, nation, and the world.
